You're On Your Own is a raw and vulnerable expression. It holds the angst, regrets and existential crises of a girl who learned to suppress her emotions. Rather the society taught her to ignore her too muchness, doubt her worth and compare herself with the other girls.
Between 2021-2023, when most of these poems were written - I was in my early twenties (my frontal lobe was not fully developed) - I was lost in search of myself. I had no idea about who I was supposed to be. I was constantly asking myself - what does the world want me to be? (Wrong question - I know now)
The title of the first poem of the book is - Who am I ? How the Hell am I Supposed to Know?
Writing these poems took me on a journey to express the parts of my life that were locked away so I can appear as a good girl.
Reading these poems have helped me not compare myself and not see myself through a lens of hate. These poems are helping me fall in love with my imperfections.
You're on Your Own is beginning of my journey of UNLEARNING.
I hope these poems inspire you to express your emotions, your story and your voice.
Lots of Love
